Painful Experiences

Read Genesis: 37:1 through 41:57

Have you met wonderful Christian people who have been through horrific, repeated adversity and wonder how they maintain their faith? Have you ever asked why bad things happen to good people?

Joseph is a perfect example of this. He was betrayed, abandoned by his family, and sold into slavery. He was exposed to sexual temptations, falsely accused of sexual abuse, and imprisoned. People he helped deserted him.

Joseph didn’t waste time asking, “Why?” He didn’t go into a “woe is me” spiral. He trusted God completely. He came through horrendous situations because he relied on God’s power. His deep faith was evident to others.

Pharaoh asked them, “Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?” (Genesis 41:38).

Unlike Joseph, we know about Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit. As we face trials we should always remember that we are God’s children.

Prayer Suggestion: Jesus, strengthen me. Holy Spirit, give me courage and faith to endure my present trials.

Quicklook: Genesis 41:37–40
